About Alderney

 

Alderney is situated the northernmost of the inhabited Channel Islands and is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which is a British Crown dependency. The area of the Island is approximately 3 miles long and 1 and a half miles wide. Around 3 square miles, this makes Alderney the 3rd largest Island in the Channel Islands.

Currency information

The island of Alderney uses its own currency, which by law must is on par to that of the United Kingdom (pound sterling).

In the Channel Islands, they have their own notes – the Guernsey pound and the Jersey pound, both of which are at par with the UK pound. Pound Sterling (symbol £) = 100 pence. Notes are in denominations of £50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of £2, £1, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 pence.

Note other currencies relationship: Check that the pound sterling currency (including Scottish and Northern Irish notes) and the Jersey pound may be used in Guernsey. Some shops may also accept Euros and major credit cards are widely accepted throughout the islands. Channel Islands notes and coins are not accepted in the UK.
